What is the mission of the modern artist?

We bring to your attention an article from a newspaper:

What is the mission of the modern artist?

This question what directed to two artists, Yosef  Reznikov and Oleg Shkred, who’ve been working together for over 10 years, who sign their works of art with their surnames RESH.
During all this years they’ve created magnificent works that impressed us with its unconventional approach. In conversations held with them, they always stressed that without each other they would not have it all to create, and the difficulties and problems are always easier to overcome together.
Yosef : “the mission of the artist is to bring beauty into our lives, attract attention to it and to show something more than our daily life” wrote Svyatoslav Rerich. We can’t disagree with that but I would add that the new generation asks this question over and over again and still looking for the answer. Take, for example, the Soviet era, when artists were engaged in any propaganda or principally engaged in landscape, thus, as if protesting against the regime
Oleg: take also the time of the Impressionism, when artists have tried to reflect the sensibility of the world using art’s technique. Another example is :an abstract painting, when the artist was trying to talk to the viewer through a sense of colors and shapes, and their work was understood among the audience. So it was at all times.
Yosef: This is very important for the artist to understand why he’s doing the thing he’s doing.
Once we were told that the writers – are the engineers of human souls;
In my opinion, the artist must have one sole purpose- to notice all the aspects of the world around us and to find meaning and joy in every moment of our lives.
Oleg: Many would like to limit the creativity of the objectives. The artist ought to… to justify his talent.
The artist must be honest with himself and the ones who surround him. He shouldn’t artificially interest them with his works. If your works attract attention and make the audience think then this is an indicator of the mission.
Yosef: The mission of the artist does not depend on the willingness of the artist but on the quality of his work. Art has its own language. Therefore, the real mission of the artist is to do his best.
Oleg : I want to notice, that the content and the quality of work affects an artist’s education level. Good technique is just an instrument. The important thing is the level of artistic generalization.
Yosef: I agree. Artist’s work is a high-intellectual one. The task of the artist is to create and there is no time to think about missions.
Oleg : The only mission, in my opinion, is to create.
Yosef : We invite you, all art lovers, to visit the exhibition, which will take place in Nazareth

– Illit , December 12th. We shall be grateful if you leave your opinion about the works in the guest book. It is very important to us. We are waiting for you!
